About the Event

Instructors : Laura Hall, Ellie Sharrow, Jodi Ryan, Kay Schwartz, Faye Turner Johnson, Susan Sage, Patty Duffy

Description - Not everyone sees beauty in power and pride. What do you see in the face of the Kehinde Wiley painting? In what ways does it remind you of the last lines of "Black Dandelion?" Our presenters will read short, original excerpts from their writings as they connect to the poem and this work of art. Participants will have time to create their responses in their way. The one-hour presentation ends in a read-around celebration of our writing.

Instructors as Writers is a decade-old group of Flint-area writers/teachers. We meet monthly at Totem Books to share poems, personal essays, and novels in progress. Our purpose is to encourage the art of writing.
